Resilient schools in Santa Barbara

Mission

Empowering schools and communities to practice mindfulness, kindness and nature-immersion that enhance belonging, social-emotional capacity, resilience, equity, and caring for our world.

Through in-person connections with cultural-sensitivity and a trauma-informed approach, we empower and collaborate with educators and leaders to implement Kind Mind tailored to each unique community, district, school, grade-level, & classroom.

Children developed self-awareness and the ability to articulate what is happening inside of them. They start practicing mindfulness skills unprompted, and ask to take a moment before responding in a difficult conversation.

- observations by Anna Scharfeld, SBCA principal 2022

Offerings:

We support students and teachers in learning and practicing hands-on skills to co-create calm, productive, mindful and caring classrooms.

We train how to facilitate secular mindfulness for each developmental stage and in various school settings.

We draw upon evidence-based practices to create culturally relevant and engaging lessons for experiential learning of kindness and mindfulness.

We work with teachers and principals to tailor our programming to their unique classroom themes, curricula and student needs.

“It has helped me feel better about myself. I've found that mindful breathing and sending kind wishes were the ones that have helped me the most throughout the year. Especially through hard times.” - SBCA student 2020

“Mindfulness is helpful for all of your feelings . . . helps you feel strong feelings letting go, from your brain into your heart.”

This is a sample of our Santa Barbara students sending kind wishes to orphans in Myanmar for the gift of giving from the heart project.
